1920s Throwback Concepts

How cool would it be if the Cardinals did a throwback showcase of the 1920s throughout an entire season? We’ve mocked up some throwback concepts to honor Cardinals uniforms worn 100 years ago and see how they would look.

1922
Showcasing the first year of the Birds on the Bat.

1923
I decided to choose the alternate single bird uniform for two reasons. One, it is very rarely seen and not well known. Two, pinstripes.

1924
This is a fun uniform that features candy-cane striped socks, and a big number on the sleeve.

1925
Very similar to the 1924 uniform, but with added National League Golden Jubilee patch, and green stripes on the socks!

1926 World Series Home
This is one of my favorite uniforms of all time. It’s classic. It’s clean. It’s harmonious. It’s a perfect uniform.

1926 World Series Road
I had to also feature the 26 WS Roads, because they purportedly had green pinstripes and green sock stripes. Also note the Birds on the Bat is very similar in bird structure to the 1922 design.

1927 Road
Yes, I chose the 1927 road uniform over the home uniform, and for one reason. Green. The uniform had green pinstripes and green sock stripes.

1928
Very similar to the 1927 uniforms, but with just the single bird and no World Champions lettering. Also lets highlight the very odd STM logo worn on the sleeve.

1929
Round out the decade back to the Birds on the Bat. These chubby birds would only last a single season under the Sainz manufacturer.

After I made these I stood back and thought, these look incredible. And then immediately had another thought, that these 100 year old logos are truly timeless. Dare I say, these uniforms and logos might look even better on the modern uniform. What say you?

  1. Excellent suggestion. BIG caveat, it would need to go through NIKE and we know at this point they are incapable of getting current uniforms correct. BUT, could the Cardinals tie this into some sort of give-away promotion? I am getting tired of bobbleheads, but maybe there’s something else.
