2024 Player’s Weekend Caps revealed

Reposting from Uni-Watch: The Cardinals, along with every team in Major League Baseball, will participate in Player’s Weekend by adding some odd numbers to the sides of their caps. More on that below.

This won’t be the first Player’s Weekend. The promotion happened in 2017, 2018, and 2019. If you’d like to go see what the Cardinals have worn for Player’s Weekend in the past, you can check that out by clicking the link below.

And while I was happy to see this promotion die off, unfortunately Player’s Weekend will be back in 2024. On August 16th, 17th, and 18th the Cardinals will be hosting the Dodgers in St. Louis. If you clicked on the link above, you’ll notice that MLB has committed some serious crimes against the uniforms in the past. Luckily this year, the uniforms will reportedly not be tampered with. Instead, the teams will be adding player’s numbers to the sides of the caps. These numbers were pulled directly from a psychopath’s ransom note, and pasted right onto the side of the cap. Thank you to Phil Hecken at Uni-Watch for isolating all the individual numbers and posting them in a collage. See below.

The idea is lame, as usual, which makes me really wonder what goes on within the hivemind of Major League Baseball. The inner machinations of their mind is truly an enigma. Anyway…

See below for what a Paul Goldschmidt cap will look like. And I’ll try and put together another post about this next weekend with some screenshots and some other images grabbed from the Cardinals’ internet platforms.

  1. The Players Weekend is undoubtedly one of my most visually hated useless MLB money grabs, right up there with Armed Forces Weekend. The numbers on the side of the cap is dumb as hell, but at least they are limited to being worn only half the game by each team. The visual variance of past Players Weekends (players wearing accessories that are decidedly not in their team color palette) has always bothered me. I’m a little old school in that I like uniforms to actually be, ya know … uniform. It’ll be … interesting … to see what players wear during that series.

Nothing says Cardinals/Dodgers and their classic uniform looks quite like Players Weekend.
