Cardinals Wear Player’s Weekend Cap Patches

If you tuned into last night’s game, you noticed the Cardinals had patches on the sides of their caps. Those patches were the player’s numbers rendered in what looks to me like a ransom note font. While that’s about as much as I’d like to say about it, I’ll leave my opinion as well. This is a pointless gimmick that doesn’t look good, and doesn’t make sense. See screenshot from last night’s game below.

Player’s Weekend was cool for about 24 hours on August 20, 2017 (the first time it happened), when the Cardinals wore Little League style uniforms in the Little League Classic game in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. The idea was cool, the execution was nice, the uniforms for that event made a lot of sense, that entire event was great. Cool, it should’ve stayed as it was. But the concept devolved into something worse, it made appearances in subsequent years with further unnecessary uniform modifications until it got canned and set aside. And now they’re trying to let it creep back in. No, this year’s patches don’t look nearly as bad as previous year’s uniforms, but it still looks bad, and still doesn’t make much sense.
