In 2023 the Cardinals continued with 6 possible uniform combinations. During a press conference at Winter Warmup, team president Bill DeWitt III revealed that uniform producer, nike, prefers to streamline the uniform process in something they call a Four Plus One. This four plus one concept means that Nike only allows, or is only willing to produce, four uniforms maximum per team, with the plus one being the City Connect jersey concept. DeWitt also revealed the Cardinals would wear a city connect uniform in 2024. The four Nike uniforms for the Cardinals would be home white, home cream, road gray, and road blue. With four uniforms paired with three different caps, the 2023 Cardinals wore six uniform combinations.
The Cardinals began the 2023 season wearing a memorial Bruce Sutter patch on their sleeves. The patch was designed in similar fashion to other Cardinals Hall of Famers memorial patches. The patch was worn Opening Day through April 19th.
Following a trend throughout MLB, the Cardinals added an advertisement patch to the sleeve of all uniforms on May 3rd. The patch was worn on either the left sleeve or the right sleeve, depending on the handedness of the player, to achieve more ad visibility while players were at bat.
Major League Baseball unveiled a new small sleeve patch that read “MLB DEBUT” for all players making their big league debut. This patch was worn for player’s first games only, including rookie Jordan Walker.
The Cardinals road blue uniforms were not worn until April 22 due to Nike’s manufacturing issues.
On April 15th the Cardinals wore Jackie Robinson themed uniforms for Jackie Robinson Day.
On May 14th the Cardinals wore Mother’s Day themed uniforms.
On May 19th 20th, and 21st the Cardinals wore Armed Forces Day themed uniforms.
On May 29th the Cardinals wore Memorial Day chest patches.
On June 2nd the Cardinals wore Lou Gehrig chest patches.
On June 18th the Cardinals wore Father’s Day themed uniforms.
On June 24th and 25th, the Cardinals wore sleeve and cap patches for their series in London.
On July 4th the Cardinals wore Independence Day themed uniforms.
On September 11th the Cardinals wore a cap patch honoring the 9/11 tragedy.
On September 15th the Cardinals wore Roberto Clemente patches for Roberto Clemente Day, some players also opted to wear 21 for their jersey number.

Cardinals will wear City Connect uniforms in 2024
Fans will have to wait a year, but the Cardinals will, indeed, wear City Connect uniforms. It’ll be in the 2024 season, per Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III, who spoke to fans during Monday’s Winter Warm-up. Nike’s City Connect uniforms are alternate Major League Baseball uniforms that feature color schemes and logos that pay homage to a team’s city. Unveiled in 2021, 14 of the 30 MLB teams have worn this style of uniform so far.
During a Q&A with fans at Ballpark village, DeWitt III was asked if the Cardinals ever considered wearing red uniforms in the regular season like the team does during spring training.
“You bring up an interesting point about our uniforms,” DeWitt III said. “Even though we’re a red team and all our fans wear red, we don’t have a red jersey. And Nike is now doing all the jerseys — and one thing I’ll point out about Nike is that they have come to all the clubs and said, ‘We really want to sort of streamline uniforms.’ So there’s a model out there that they want to stick to called ‘four plus one.’ You have four jerseys that you can wear — home, road and two alternates — plus your City Connect when you unveil that. We’re going to unveil the City Connect in 2024.
“And we have, of course, our white, our alternate home cream, our road gray and alternate road powder blue. Those are our four and then plus one will be our City Connect. I won’t spoil it here, but suffice it to say, there will be some red on the jersey.” – Benjamin Hochman

The Cardinals will begin wearing the [advertiser] jersey sleeve patch immediately, starting with tonight’s game versus the Los Angeles Angels. “We are proud to partner with [advertiser] in unveiling our first jersey patch sponsor,” said St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III. “We worked closely with Ron Kruszewski and his team at [advertiser] on the patch design to make sure it fit tastefully on our iconic uniform, and they even agreed to slightly modify their word mark to fit the red and blue color combination that we use for our classic ‘Birds on the Bat’ logo. Both Ron and I are confident that this design strikes the perfect balance between preserving the integrity of our uniform while providing great exposure for [advertiser].”
