In 1997 the Cardinals wore a league wide patch celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier.
This season the Cardinals also removed the numbers from the front of the jersey.

On June 17th the Cardinals wore 1982 throwback uniforms.
On July 4th the Cardinals wore 1931 St. Louis Stars throwback uniforms.
On September 1st for Labor Day, the Cardinals wore a Cardinals Care patch MDA sleeve patch.

  1. The McGwire and Eckersley game used jersey photos shown here are from Labor Day of ’97. You can tell this not only because they feature the MDA sleeve patch, but that was also the only time that season numbers appeared on the front of the jersey. I’m not exactly sure why that was the case, but it’s a nice trivia nugget nevertheless.

  2. Elias. You are correct. I think it’s because they gave these jersey’s away to fans after the game as part of the MDS day. I guess it was easier to use jerseys from the previous season. But it does mean they had to make one for Big MAC and DeShields.
