The St. Louis nine — Chocolate Stockings — met the champion amateur Empires at Grand Avenue Park.

The St. Louis men appeared in their handsome uniform of white, with brown stockings and trimmings, with the name of the club across the breast of their shirts.

The St. Louis men were early on the field, wearing over their handsome new uniform white flannel jackets.
Booneville Weekly Eagle: September 3, 1875
The St. Louis club has an attractive dress. It consists of white caps, white shirts, with St. Louis woven in brown letters across the breast, white knee breeches, and brown stockings. This uniform is well fitted to display their wonderful muscular development.
