In 1951 the team refreshed their entire look. New solid blue caps with a modified STL emblem. New slimmer piping on the front of the shirt without the piping that connected the shoulder to the sleeve. Red undershirts at home. Blue undershirts on the road. A new Birds on the Bat logo across the chest. This is the first Birds on the Bat logo to feature a yellow/gold bat. The Cardinals also wore a sleeve patch this season, commemorating 75 years of the National League.

St. Louis Post Dispatch: April 17, 1951
The Cardinals wore their new uniforms of traveling gray, with all blue caps except for a red button and red city insignia. On the shirt front Redbirds were astride a gold-colored bat, instead of the black one, which the Birds have used since they took their places on the Cardinal uniforms. The new socks are candy-striped, with red ankle piece, and all the athletes wore black jersey undershirts.
St. Louis Globe Democrat: April 18, 1951
The Cards have newly designed uniforms to some extent for 1951. They now wear dark blue turtleneck, long-sleeve jerseys under their uniform shirts. Their caps are solid dark blue, save for the red insignia on the front, and the button on top. The Red Birds on the shirt fronts are fatter than in other years and they’re standing on a gold-colored bat instead of a blue one. The red braid on the uniforms is thinner, but there is none around the belt as in other seasons. Red predominates in the stockings, with white stripes and blue ones.
