In 1976 the Cardinals bought into the blue road uniform trend. Gussie Busch referred to this color as Victory Blue.

Wishful Cards to Wear ‘Victory Blue’ on Road
The Cardinals are trading in their traditional road gray uniforms for “victory blues.” General Manager Bing Devine said the Redbirds’ new road uniforms would continue to feature the familiar birds-on-bat insignia. White home uniforms will remain unchanged.
