Throughout the years the Cardinals have worn St. Louis Negro League inspired uniforms paying homage to the the all black league before integration. It is important to note that these uniforms use inspiration and elements from the St. Louis Negro League uniforms, but do not fully reflect what the those teams actually wore. A main discrepancy is the STL emblem on the cap. Photography shows the St. Louis Negro League teams only wore a cap emblem in a small number of seasons. The STL we see worn on these throwbacks is a modern contrivance, and is font called Windsor. Please see historical photography below.

This cap is in the collection at the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. It is labeled as a cap worn by Cool Papa Bell, however we have no known photography that shows the Stars wore this cap.
